Dies Irae

In mid April 2002, the World Premiere of the new musical written by Matthew Heap and Christopher Ruth took place at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. The musical – Dies Irae, from the Latin “Day of Wrath” – tells the story of the ensnarement of the wife of a mobster in crime and the dramatic results that ensue.

The show was performed by the renowned Scotch ‘n' Soda Theater Group, and was directed by Matthew Heap. Chris was the Musical Director.

Dies Irae - "Day of Wrath" - starts with the murder of a gangster - Red's husband. She weeps for him at the funeral.     1

Red goes home and recalls the good times she had with her husband, but also decides she wants no more links with the mob. She sings of her memories.     2

Her dreams of leaving the mob are soon dashed, when Archie pays a visit and reminds her that her husband was supposed to do a bank job that coming weekend and that Red needed to take his place.     3
